| Coaches are the integral part of
Greece Boys Soccer League's success. A Coaches influence can
have a lasting effect on his/her players for many years. Therefore
it is important that all Coaches lead by being a good example. What
follows are just a few examples of what a Coach needs to do in
order to help his/her players learn the game of soccer and build a
better team:
NEVER be alone with a
player that is not your own child! This is for Your
Protection, as well as the players! Always try to
have another ADULT present at all GBSL activities.
Invite parents to attend your practices. Never
hold a "Closed" practice.
Never leave a player
unattended after a practice or game.
Be supportive of every
member of your team at all times.
Be prepared for all practices and games.
Plan out your practices in advance. Make out your
game roster well before the game, not at the game.
Communicate effectively
with your players and their parents. Simply put...
"If they don't know what you want, how are you
going to get it?"
Make every effort to maintain a regular practice
schedule. Your players, and their parents, need to
know when and where the practice is going to be each
week so that they too can plan their schedules.
Maintain adequate
discipline at all practices and games. If you
allow your players to get out of hand, there is no way
that you will be able to teach them the skills and
techniques of soccer effectively. Remember, keep
it simple, keep it fun, but always keep control.
Provide players with a safe practice
environment..
Focus on how your players
played during the game, not the final score.
Adhere to the "No one plays four quarters before
all have played three" rule
(GBSL
Rules, Sect. III, Item 4). This rule is in
effect to insure that every boy has equal playing time
during games. As Coach, you must always be fair
and consistent, you cannot play favorites.
Treat all officials with respect, and as guests of our
League. Negative actions or remarks are inappropriate
and encourage players to do the same. Teach by
setting a good example!
Show respect for the coach of the opposing team. Open criticism
is in poor taste. Should a problem develop, Coaches are
expected to find an appropriate time and place to
address their concern. The Greece Boys Soccer
League provides many avenues of appeal, including commissioners, board members, and the Executive
Board.
