GBSL All-Stars Program

GBSL All-Stars Program Introduction

Dear Parents and Boys of the Greece Boys Soccer Program,

Each year players from the Greece Boys House Program have the opportunity to participate on the All-Star Teams. The All-Star Soccer program is an extension of the regular house recreational league and is designed for players ages 9-14. The All-Star Program was created to allow players with an advanced skill level the opportunity to further increase their skills and knowledge of soccer through a higher level of instructional and developmental training and through playing in a more competitive environment. The age group your son plays for in the house program, is the age group he is eligible to try out for in the All-Star program. (Players from the 7-8 Division are NOT eligible for All-Star Teams. The is a New York West Youth Soccer Association restriction.)

The All-Star season runs concurrent with the house league season (May - July). All-Star players will play in 3-5 tournaments throughout the season.  Each tournament weekend consists of 3 to 4 games. Additional games and/or tournaments may be scheduled at the discretion of each coach. The specific tournaments that the All-Star teams will participate in will be chosen later next Spring. Normally they fall in the June -  July time frame.

Tryouts are mandatory and the date will be posted on the web site.. Tryouts utilize a variety of drills and  game situations to assess and determine skill levels. Behaviors that are also valued are enthusiasm, cooperation, communication, teamwork and "coachability". Every effort is made at the tryouts to be as fair as possible in order to select the most competitive team for each age bracket to represent the Greece All-Star program. Please remind your son to bring a stamped self-addressed envelope for status notification, soccer ball, cleats & shin guards, water bottle, a good attitude and hope for good weather.

Past participation in any All-Star program does not guarantee a spot on future teams. Each player will be evaluated based on soccer skills exhibited in a variety of drills and on their behaviors exhibited during the entire try-out.  Although there is an additional fee to play in the All-Star program, tryouts are free of charge and are open to all boys registered in the Greece Boys Soccer League House program. The All-Star program is in addition to the house program and should not create conflicts with the house games or practices.

The Greece All-Star program has always enjoyed a high degree of success in competitions with the surrounding communities. Credit for this is due to the strong level of our house program and the dedicated volunteers who comprise the All-Star coaching staff. As in the past, we will try to staff each All-Star team with two qualified instructional coaches.

Please be sure to check this website for updated program information.

Thank you for your time and I hope to see many of you at our Tryouts! Any questions, please feel free to contact the Greece Boys Soccer hotline at (585) 234-4404, or send me an e-mail via the web site.

Sincerely,

Barry VanDurme

Greece Boys All-Star Program Commissioner
